It&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.venice.coe.int\/images\/SITE%20IMAGES\/Publications\/Rule_of_Law_Check_List.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rule of Law Checklist<\/a><\/strong> has become a standard tool and it offers its expertise to its member States, other Intergovernmental Organisations and the various bodies of the Council of Europe in the following three fields:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>democratic institutions and fundamental rights<\/li>\n<li>constitutional justice and ordinary justice<\/li>\n<li>elections, referendums and political parties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Venice-Commission.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-4749\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista\" alt=\"Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Venice-Commission.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a>Members of the <em>Venice Commission<\/em> include not only all 46 <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/\" title=\"Council of Europe\">Council of Europe<\/a><\/em><\/strong> member states, but also a number of other countries as well as observer states and institutional partners such as the European Union (EU) and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Venice Commission<\/em> is composed of one independent expert per member state -usually a university professor of public- or public international law, a judge of the supreme or constitutional court or a member of the national parliament &#8211; elected by the member states for a once-renewable four-year term of office.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 80%; text-align: left;\"><br \/>\n_<br \/>\nPhotos \u00a9 CoE<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Commission for Democracy through Law is commonly known as Venice Commission &#8211; as its four plenary meetings a year are held in Venice.
