{"id":11620,"date":"2022-04-06T06:00:57","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T05:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/?p=11620"},"modified":"2024-09-27T07:56:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T06:56:51","slug":"15_years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/15_years\/","title":{"rendered":"15 years Europe&#8217;s Human Rights Watchdog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a title=\"Welcome to Europe\u2019s Human Rights Watchdog\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/\">Europe&#8217;s Human Rights Watchdog<\/a><\/strong> is celebrating its 15<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, but we are not really in a festive mood after the <strong><a title=\"Council of Europe excludes Russia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/russia-excluded\/\">Russian Federation<\/a><\/strong> had to be expelled from the <strong><a title=\"Council of Europe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/\">Council of Europe<\/a><\/strong> a few weeks ago: the photos of the Russian flag in front of the <strong><a title=\"Looking back\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/looking_back\/\">Palais de l&#8217;Europe<\/a><\/strong> in Strasbourg being taken down are too surreal and depressing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--300x300.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11610 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--560x560.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--260x260.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--160x160.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years--45x45.jpg 45w, https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Watchdog-15-years-.jpg 852w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 218px) 100vw, 218px\" \/><\/a>However, the events of the past weeks also showed us that common <strong><a title=\"Core Values\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/core-values\/\">values<\/a><\/strong> such as <strong><a title=\"Human Rights\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/core-values\/human-rights\/\">human rights<\/a><\/strong>, democracy and the <strong><a title=\"The Rule of Law\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/core-values\/rule-of-law\/\">rule of law<\/a><\/strong> are important to the European states. This view was apparently shared by the visitors of <strong><a title=\"Welcome to Europe\u2019s Human Rights Watchdog\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/\">Europe&#8217;s Human Rights Watchdog<\/a><\/strong>, as the access statistics of the platform for the past 12 months show:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visitors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than 30,000 people have accessed over 120,000 articles. Most of the hits on contributions in German came from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Contributions in English were mainly accessed from the UK, the US, France, Italy and China. 55% of visitors were male, 45% female. 78% of all visitors were younger than 45 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top 5 articles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The top 5 of the most read articles were: the <strong><a title=\"European Court of Human Rights\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/court\/\">European Court of Human Rights<\/a><\/strong>; the <strong><a title=\"European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/convention-on-human-rights\/\">European Convention on Human Rights<\/a><\/strong>; the <strong><a title=\"Council of Europe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/\">Council of Europe<\/a><\/strong>; the <strong><a title=\"Core Values\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/council-of-europe\/core-values\/\">core values<\/a><\/strong> of the Council of Europe, and the <strong><a title=\"Quiz: Champ or chimp?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/quiz-champ-or-chimp\/\">Quiz<\/a><\/strong>. Regarding the latter, even though the questions are the same, participants in the English version did almost twice as well as those in the German version.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cyberattacks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/CoE-Russia-flag-down-300x225.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/CoE-Russia-flag-down-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"182\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a>In addition to the automated cyberattacks, <strong><a title=\"Welcome to Europe\u2019s Human Rights Watchdog\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/\">Europe&#8217;s Human Rights Watchdog<\/a><\/strong> was subjected to more than 100 individual hacking attempts per day. By far the largest number of these came from Turkey, followed by Russia and the US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Welcome to Europe\u2019s Human Rights Watchdog\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europewatchdog.info\/en\/\">Europe&#8217;s Human Rights Watchdog<\/a><\/strong> received more than 120 requests from readers during the last 12 months. 90% of them came from men.
