Expert Bodies of the Council of Europe

The Council of Europe strives to provide European societies with a legal framework in order to facilitate their living together.

To that end, the Council of Europe has drawn up international treaties like the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) as well as more than 200 further conventions, additional protocols and partial agreements.

Additionally, the Council of Europe has created expert bodies like, for example, its Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), in order to promote its core valueshuman rights, democracy and the rule of law – within the borders of its member states.
