“Ida” wins Academy Award

Once again, a film supported by Eurimages – the Council of Europe’s film fund – wins an Academy Award for best foreign language film.

In this Polish-Danish co-production in black and white, Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski tells a story of religion, ideology and persecution: Anna, an orphan, lives in Poland in the Sixties and is about to join a catholic convent. Before taking her final vows she not only finds out that her name is Ida and that she’s Jewish, but also that she has an aunt and that the other members of her family were killed during the Holocaust.

“Ida” has won several awards, among them the award for Best European Film 2014 of the European Film Academy.
