Murdered, tortured, raped…

… beaten, trafficked, confined, exploited, oppressed, discriminated.

Violence against women knows no bounds and is ever-present: At least a dozen women solely die through gender-related violence in Europe every day – dark figure of crime unknown…

Thanks to the latest Council of Europe convention, for the first time in it’s history our continent now disposes of an international treaty which aims to protect women against violence.

The Convention on preventing and combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence enters into force tomorrow, on August 1st, to the day 180 years after the British Empire abolished slavery – undoubtedly a good omen for this landmark in European legislation for the protection of women’s and therefore human rights!
